Victorian Shower Room

Islington, London

Inspired by the Art Deco bathrooms of several of Manhattan’s old-school hotels and clubs, this bathroom is adjacent to the master bedroom. Having lived in their Victorian home for fourteen years, they were keen to replace the previous bathroom with a double washstand and remove the former bath and make room for a generous-sized shower.

To create the walk-in shower area, there were practical considerations to be planned, including lowering the floor joists to allow for the wet floor shower tray.

The driving influences in the design were the double basin washstand and the thirties-influenced black lever taps, white brick-shaped tiles, pillar wall lights and Crittall-style shower screen. The large shower and double basins are extraordinarily effective in making the room feel luxurious.

The design was inspired by Art Deco bathrooms of several of Manhattan’s old-school hotels and clubs, as well as some in Miami.

Lefroy brooks was the ideal brassware option in this space, the client had seen them in hotels she’d visited and their brassware has the traditional elements but with the modern technology of recessed thermostatic valves.
