Serving up luxury since the 70s, West One Bathrooms have long been regarded as Europe’s most illustrious and innovative supplier of bespoke bathrooms. 2018 marks a milestone for the company as it celebrates forty years. Since Anthony Waters first entered the bathroom industry in 1962 in a single office located in South West London selling baths, sanitary ware and plumbing supplies to the trade, it was always his aim to create a luxury bathroom brand, offering the finest bathrooms into the then untapped luxury market.
Throughout the 60s and early 70s the Waters name became renowned within the luxury bathroom industry, supplying to all sectors including many notable projects such as the bathrooms of the James Bond film, Diamonds are Forever. Such was the quality of the products the fittings and accessories supplied then are still available from us today.
To expand the brand globally, West One Bathrooms were one of the first British bathroom companies to exhibit at an international trade fair in Saudi Arabia in 1980. The foundations for what you see at West One Bathrooms were laid well over forty years ago.
West One Bathrooms continues to be family run by the Waters family and is currently in the third generation, Anthony Waters established the company in 1978 when he acquired the “Shanks” showroom located on North Audley Street in Mayfair. At this point it is fair to say that they were pioneers of the luxury bathroom market in London and the Middle East, there was no other showroom like it. The Waters family continued pursuing the luxury bathroom market and West One Bathrooms flourished, retaining the Mayfair showroom and acquiring a new warehouse and trade counter premises at Queenstown Road, Battersea. This enthusiasm is ever as present today as the numbers of showrooms have increased to ten. West One Bathrooms are recognised as being one of the leading and most inspirational suppliers of luxury bathrooms worldwide.
West One Bathrooms rapidly became associated with sourcing the most beautiful bathrooms, transforming the perception of bathrooms being merely functional and basic into an indulgent and luxurious space. Breaking the mould in the industry, the company single handedly led the way with inspiring and innovative ideas and ground breaking showroom designs. As the 1990’s roll on, so did a boom in new showrooms following the appointment of Duncan and Kevin Waters as Directors in 1994. Garratt Lane, Wandsworth opened in 1998; it was the first mono-brand showroom at the time, being fully dedicated to Villeroy&Boch sanitaryware and tiles the company subsequently won “Bathroom Showroom of the Year 1999” Award at the annual KBB Industry Award Ceremony. Later, the same year the prestigious Knightsbridge showroom was opened.
Into the Millennium, West One Bathrooms had decisively made their mark in providing outstanding design and guidance through continually sourcing for the most sumptuous bathrooms worldwide, offering exclusive access to the widest realm of leading bathroom manufacturers. Due to rapid growth, the company re-located both the Battersea and Wandsworth showrooms to larger premises, and in 2007 opened its first out of town showroom in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
The Clerkenwell showroom opened in 2011 showcasing the KOHLER brand in a dedicated environment designed specifically to target the architect and design community. Following this, Oxshott in 2013, Notting Hill in 2014 and Chelsea on the Kings Road in 2015 were added to the rapidly expanding portfolio all fitted to the highest standard with the most up to date product selection available. To this day the expansion and determination to remain at the forefront of the industry continues; 2017 saw the launch of the tenth showroom in The Design Centre Chelsea Harbour, dedicated to the designer brands ANN SACKS and KALLISTA.
Today, the company employs over 75 staff. Founder Anthony Waters retired in 2007 and sons Duncan and Kevin have continued to move the company forward as joint Managing Directors. Sourcing the very best staff in the industry has allowed the company and its clients to create exceptional spaces over the past 40 years.
