Clapham Family Home | The Family Bathroom

London

This London family home called for a bathroom that felt classic without leaning traditional. The brief centred on a calm, neutral palette built around natural marble – a scheme with period sensibility, designed to wear its everyday use lightly.

The brief called for a separate bath and shower, both accommodated without either dominating the room. Configuring the shower as a wet room was key: with no tray or framing to break the floor, the room reads as a single continuous space and feels larger for it. A frameless glass enclosure reinforces the effect, almost disappearing, while the chequered floor runs uninterrupted beneath — the scheme’s quiet signature.

Marble sets the tone throughout, its subtle veining bringing warmth to the neutral palette. The starting point was the marble display in our showroom, which the client had been drawn to. Marble skirting and dado rails establish the classic detailing the brief asked for, while in the shower the tiling is framed with beading, softening the lines and defining the alcove as a feature in its own right.

A largely white scheme — bath, basin, WC and tiling — is lifted by a single deliberate gesture: a subtle green marble mosaic that draws the eye to details which would otherwise recede.

That same green carries through to the bespoke vanity, tying the room together. Storage was treated as an opportunity rather than a compromise: in place of the usual boxing above the WC, an arched recess with open shelving softens the space and earns its place as a feature. The shower runs along the longer wall, lending the room a greater sense of length in use. Finished with Venti20 brassware, the result is a classic bathroom that feels luxurious and calm.
