Victorian Villa

Tunbridge Wells, Kent

The design of this master bathroom in a beautiful Decimus Burton style Victorian Villa was carried out during lockdown, it was all decided and finalised via virtual meetings – from the initial consultation and design layouts to products and wallpaper.

The starting point of the project was the agape Vieques bath, the client fell in love with it after seeing it on our website. The original bathroom had Mylands Artillery Ground on the woodwork and ceiling, which the client wanted to retain. Initially, the layout was going to remain the same. However, having looked at the space, our Head of Design Louise Ashdown, designer of this bathroom, suggested an alternative layout that showcased the Vieques bath and made the room feel much more spacious.

The client was very keen to incorporate our waterproof wallpaper in the bathroom, so we decided on wrapping it around two walls. The green tones of the chosen chinoiserie wallpaper nod to the victorian era and work beautifully with the dark paint. The vanity unit provides plenty of hidden storage and we had the woodwork painted in RAL 7021 to match the exterior of the bath, tying in the classic styling with ultra-industrial. As the room is a fusion of styles, we suggested the Agape Memory brassware. Its classic cross handle taps nod to traditional and its Burnished Bronze finish to industrial. The bespoke grey tint glass of the shower screen adds to the moody atmosphere of the room. This was heightened by the large format ‘Rust tiles’ on the walls and same in a hexagonal format, adding texture to the floor.

I love the darker moody tones and nod to the Victorian era – the room has mystery
