Working side by side on two distinct projects for one client – ‘his’ bathroom in a characterful Sussex cottage, and ‘her’ bathroom in a London home. Each space could reflect its owner’s vision entirely, and in East Sussex, that meant crafting a contemporary yet heritage-conscious bathroom for a client with a strong sense of style and architectural insight.
Eye of the Tiger
East Sussex, UK
The Brief
Set in a picturesque hamlet, this charming old cottage presented a beautiful, if complex, canvas. The client – a trained architect – had a clear vision: to create a bathroom that was modern and clean, but still sympathetic to the age and character of the building. He had previously worked with another supplier but had become disillusioned with the process. A visit to our Tunbridge Wells showroom reignited his excitement, and from there, the collaboration began.
His wishlist was already forming: a specific vanity he’d long admired, Cielo ceramics, Gessi brassware, and a compact bath to suit the room’s proportions. Our role was to enhance and elevate these choices, while navigating the quirks of a period property

Design Process & Challenges
We held several detailed showroom meetings to map out the plan – balancing the vision with practical realities like access, weight limitations, and the lack of plumbing voids beneath the floor. These conversations were essential in ensuring the final scheme worked not only visually, but structurally.
Where possible, we worked with the property’s natural features. Vinyl flooring was chosen over tiles due to the uneven floors, preserving room height and easing installation. To keep the space from feeling too clinical, we introduced smokey bronze mirrors, warm metallic finishes, and a bold, bespoke wallpaper that softened the hard surfaces and added texture and depth.

Personal Touches
The standout element? A striking wallpaper installed behind the bath and WC wall. Originally hesitant, the client (and his wife) were convinced after seeing it in one of our showroom displays. The tiger peeks cheekily over the bath – bringing both humour and character to the space.
He’s since been affectionately nicknamed ‘Pi’!
