For this Arts & Crafts style house located in a private estate near Tunbridge Wells, our brief was to design a Master bathroom, Family bathroom, two Guest en-suites and Attic suite bathrooms from scratch but to retain a little authenticity to the integral design of the house, whilst providing up to date functional bathrooms, with warm homely feel!
Our designer Louise suggested something completely different to the clients initial thoughts for the Master bathroom – an Oasis Lutetia basin unit – which became the focal point of this room. This followed through with large polished porcelain tiles that gave a nod to classic Art Deco period, in soft off white/grey tones. A freestanding bath added the inviting touch and helped create a sanctuary space, and draws your eye in from the Master bedroom. This bathroom was quite awkward size wise to work with as had a huge chimney breast off centre which had to be worked around, we needed to create some extra storage – hence the basin is situated in a bespoke recess with recessed storage either side and WC to the right hand side.
The Family bathroom was originally a cupboard and a small room. The wall between both was knocked down to create an L shape room, enabling lots of light. Bespoke wall panelling was made by builders to replicate old panelling elsewhere in the house. Louise introduced plank tiles for the flooring to give a warmer feel to the space then square tiles, and a soft colour palette in tiles for the shower was also used.
The Attic bathroom was just one big space so we worked out minimum space we could fit a fully functional bathroom into, and divided the room up into bedroom, and bathroom space and worked around the skeilings to create a warm welcoming bathing space with a full size shower, and freestanding Victoria + Albert slipper bath.
