Case Study - Sussex Farmhouse

This property was an old farmhouse which the clients were sympathetically restoring, reinvigorating and extending. They were used to a Scandinavian lifestyle so wanted to merge the features of this exquisite farmhouse with the clean contemporary living they were used to.

Due to this being an old farmhouse there were additional challenges that needed to be taken into consideration including accentuating the main features of the space i.e. the vaulted ceiling and original exposed beams. Although there was a large floor space the walls were not that tall so stud walls were created to enable more of the floor space in the centre of the room to be used and create a private space for the shower and the wc.

Soft textures, lighting and colours were chosen to compliment the current features of the space. Wood grain textured floor tiles and mother of pearl mosaics coupled with soft lighting in the shower space created a luxurious spa like sanctuary to relax in.

Before and After case study

Case Study - example

The bathroom was to be shared by two people. One was a bather and the other more inclined to shower. The design brief was to address the client's differing personal washing preferences, whilst not upsetting the austere, minimal style of the apartment, which was more focused on the epic panoramic London views and the client's personal art collection. The bathroom was modestly sized so it was important to keep a fresh and light interior to the room.

Running right through the apartment was a resin floor, which was used to good effect in the bathroom. It allowed the floor to be seamlessly tapered to a linear drain without showing a single joint. The material was perfect enhancing the simplicity required from the client.

To soften the industrial colours, a full length recessed light shelf along the main wall was designed. This was to brighten the space and to add a sense of depth and volume to the room, as well as allowing a practical shelf for the basin and shower area.

The general shape of the bathroom and the grey tones could have made the space look potentially hard. To complement the balance, curved and sculptural forms of the freestanding pieces added a softer feel to the room and become strong focal points of the space.
